The Delaware State Police said Wednesday an improperly secured child-safety seat led to the death of a toddler in a crash earlier this week.
The Tuesday 2:40 p.m. crash, which happened near the area of Whitesville and Whaley’s roads, occurred when a 2007 Subaru Legacy driven by 46-year-old Danielle Bobak hit a tree, police said.
After hitting the tree, the car rolled over and 2-year-old Lleyton Slate of Delmar, who was in the child-safety seat, was thrown from the vehicle.
Police said Slate was Bobak’s nephew.
Slate’s death was the first fatality of children age 7 and under in Delaware this year.
So far, there have been nine injuries, which are down from 2011’s totals of 16 injuries and two fatalities.
